KRISHNA JANMASHTAMI
Sri Krishna Janmashtami is the celebration of the appearance day
of Lord Krishna on the eighth day of the dark half of the month
of Bhadra.
Lord Krishna is the original person (adi purusha), Supreme Personality
of Godhead from whom all other incarnations expand. He appeared
as the eighth son of Devaki and Vasudeva. He was born as a baby
with four hands, holding conch shell, club, disc, and lotus flower,
decorated with the mark of Shrivatsa, wearing the jeweled necklace
of the Kaustubha stone, dressed in yellow silk, appearing dazzling
like a bright blackish cloud, wearing a helmet bedecked with the
Vaidurya stone, valuable bracelets, earrings and similar other ornaments
all over His body and an abundance of hair on His head.
At ISKCON Rajahmundry, the Deities are dressed most grandly with
new dresses and jewellery. The temple is so grandly decorated that
it heralds the most celebrated event. Huge crowds over 50,000 to
1,00,000 throng the temple for darshana till midnight. The devotees
fast till midnight, all the while engaging in various services.
The Grand 10 day festival of Brahmostavam on the occasion of Sri
Krishna Janmasti starting from Balaram Purinma and ending with H.D.G.Srila
Prabhupada Appearance day.During 10 day festival every day yagnam
followed by Vahana seva .Then Bhagavad Gita Discourse by Temple
President Sri man Satya Gopinath Das and the end of the day Culture
event like Krishna Lila and Ramas Lila dramas are enacted by Expert
artists i.e. Surabhi/Prabhat arts international.
On the Sri Krishna Janmashtami day, the whole temple is decorated
with different kinds of Fresh Flowers ,Flower plants and other decorated
items .The temple opens at 5:00am for Mangla Arathi followed by
darshan Arathi .During darshan arathi continuous Kirthan participating
hundred's of devotees. The past time of Lord Krishna are discussed
for two Hours .By 11am Sudharshan yagnam is performed with handful
of Devotee couples sitting before the yagna. At the end of yagnam
Purnahuthi is conducted.The three Kalishas are taken in procession
upto Gowthami Bathing Ghat and there avakrutha snanam ceremony is
performed in the sacred river Godavari.
In the afternoon at 3pm the event of breaking the pot (vutti kottuta)
is conducted before the huge crowd and it runs an hour programme.
It is really memorable event remembering child Krishna's most popular
Leela.In the evening at 6pm Teposavam (Boat seva) is performed that
is placing the Deities on specially decorated Throne in the Boat
specially made for this purpose, the boats are moved over the waters
for half an hour to fourty five minutes with musical band and bursting
fire crackers. For this teposavam near about 25,000 Devotees attended
and enjoyed blissfully the whole event .
At 8pm Spiritual discourse discussing various past times of lord
Krishna is given by Sriman satya Gopinath das for two and half hours.
